The Maasai Mara National Reserve, located in the southwestern part of Kenya near the Tanzanian border, is a protected expanse of savannah wilderness. Within this reserve, you can encounter a diverse array of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, and hippos. Every year, wildebeest journey across its open plains as part of their annual migration. The terrain features vast grassy plains and undulating hills, with the Mara and Talek rivers meandering through the landscape. In the vicinity, you’ll also find Maasai villages (known as “enkangs”) scattered throughout the area.
